Richard Hadley, Angling Trust Coaching Centre Manager and Lead Safeguarding Officer reckons explains how Spring Into Fishing 2019 can work for both you and newcomer anglers…
Spring Into Fishing is back to kick start the 2019 delivery season. Our Participation Officers are keen to help set-up and support angling events this coming spring, to give angling a boost.
Participation Officers will provide you with event packs and additional support including fishing licence waivers for Spring Into Fishing events and free advertising through the “Get Fishing” website and its social media accounts that can help kick-start new members for your club or customers at your fishery. All they’ll ask of you is the commitment and enthusiasm to deliver these popular events, and for you to collect as close to 100% as possible of participant data at the event.
From the angling development angle, I’d suggest that your event is not an isolated one but should have clear exit strategies via a series of follow-up sessions, such as the CAST Level 1 Awards.
This foresight will ensure that participants you meet at Spring Into Fishing start to develop an enjoyment of fishing and get connected with regular activity sessions – a real bonus for club membership and fishery affiliation.
Please don’t forget to get the adults involved too… Combining fishing with tea and cake is a simple but excellent way of creating a lasting impression to get participants coming back for more!
I’d also encourage your new participants to get a fishing licence early on and if possible, please try to provide online access at your events so that you can help with this.
CAST Award resource is £40 including training, delivery packs and ten starter, 1 to 3 Level Certificates.
Further certificates are available through the Coaching Centre at just £ 2.50 per 10 – a bargain!
