Trout fisherman
Let river fishing commence
The coarse fish close season on rivers is now over, the rivers are open and there is great fishing to be had!
Make the most of the opportunities the warmer weather brings and get out fishing. Remember an annual licence now runs for a full year from the date of purchase so if you haven’t bought one yet you won’t lose out.

Ladies fishing
Fishing events for women
Women’s Sports Week 2017 is underway and Angling Trust is running events across the country aimed at getting women and families to enjoy fishing together.
These free, friendly and fun taster sessions are the perfect way for friends and family to discover the magic of angling this summer.

Enforcement Officer
Protecting our fish
Many anglers think our enforcement activity is all about checking licences but there is much more to it than that. We carry out a wide range of work to protect fish stocks, from catching poachers setting illegal nets to stopping anglers fishing on rivers during the close season (which could interfere with fish spawning).
Here one of our enforcement officers talks us through his activity during the close season.

Check the byelaws
Don’t move fish around – know the law
Remember, when you are fishing on rivers there are restrictions on taking fish away. To prevent the spread of disease it is illegal to move fish from one water to another. Make sure you are up to date on the rules in your area by checking your local byelaws.

Mark Diamond

Mark is a keen and dedicated trout angler and regularly uses his holiday entitlement to represent the agency in the Annual Water Industry Game Fishing Championships.
