Richard Hadley, Angling Trust Coaching Centre Manager and Lead Safeguarding Officer is appalled at this potential threat to sports…
The scope of knowledge that is now required by coaches, simply to enjoy doing what they do best (i.e.coaching people to enjoy angling) is enormous!
It’s a reflection that we now must be aware of other factors that have begun to surround sporting events, especially as many sports seek to advertise their events more widely to ensure success.
Recently a sporting event in a small country town, attracted more than just participants… As people left the event, after having a great time, a local gang began to try and recruit young people into distributing drugs on their behalf. The advertising for the event had drawn the gang in because so many people were expected!
It’s important that as coaches you are aware that this kind of practice is out there. There is a well-established (and anonymous, should you wish) reporting mechanism. If you see or hear anything like this, simply make contact with https://crimestoppers-uk.org
