What's happening...

Never been fishing before? Always wanted to try? Puzzled by all the kit, what to do and where to go…? We’re providing the answers to questions like these at “Learn to Fish” beginners fly fishing courses. By the end of the day you’ll be ready to go fishing on your own.

Bristol Water Fisheries would like to encourage everyone to have a go at fly fishing. This fantastic hobby will get you outdoors where you can meet like-minded friends and hopefully succeed in catching some healthy, fresh trout to eat.

So, come on – Learn to Fish!

What happens on the day: This day is perfect for beginners offering a five hour course with Martin Cottis, a local guide and instructor with over 25 years experience on the lakes. These lessons will provide casting and fishing tuition giving a solid platform from which you can progress afterwards. All tackle, permits and licences are supplied and we aim to have everyone casting with a fly to an acceptable standard before taking them for a short fishing from bank and boat.

Anything else? Outdoor events are weather dependent so please bring something to keep you dry and/or sunblock and a drink. For events including “game angling” we recommend that you wear a hat and glasses/sunglasses to protect your head and eyes while casting.

Disability information: Volunteers and coaches at these events are provided with essential best practice guidance on working with and planning events for disabled and mobility impaired people. Please check with the venue contact for specific details of facilities available.
