9th July 2020
We asked Korum Brand Manager Mat Woods (above right), to give us his view on the current situation, angling and how the timing is spot on to be able to Take a Friend Fishing with free fishing licences for friends this July 4th to 19th.
Suffice to say that most of us will remember 2020 for lots of different reasons. Out of the blue our lives were turned upside down and for the majority of people out there, it was like pressing the reset button. All of the things that either consumed our lives, or enriched them, were taken away.
Whilst I’m sure many would have chosen the freedom to see their loved ones again, or go back to work to earn a full salary, a number of sports and hobbies were permitted ahead of these things. With ‘time’ and the new disposable income, the world of fishing is booming. There’s a tidal wave of new and returning anglers, which is wonderful to see.
We could bemoan the busier banksides and get frustrated by even-busier tackle shops, or we could embrace it and secure angling’s future for many years to come. The opportunities for everybody involved in fishing are vast and it’s time to swim with the tide, not against it.
Yes, there are lots of people fishing, but surely that gives us even more reason to introduce anglers to the sport in the right way. Ask yourself how you got into fishing and whether taking a friend or family member could ignite the same spark?
I’ve got friends and family I can’t visit in their own home, but I can take them fishing, so I’m going to.
My youngest brother is desperate to catch a carp off the surface and my oldest friend wants to catch a big perch off his local canal. I can’t wait for those sessions and I’m sure by keeping in touch and arranging more fishing trips together, they will get just as addicted as I have to this fantastic pursuit.
I’m mad about fishing. It’s my livelihood, my escape and gives me a whole host of ambitions and goals to strive for. I hope to share that passion more than ever and urge you to do the same. Take a friend fishing! Show them what they’ve been missing.
